A Demon lord a thousand years old, carrying guilt that has had a thousand years to calcify into something he cannot put down. He wields Amanarath — the black and red sword that reduces organic matter to ash — and has made a vow that has cost him more than he expected.

He is searching for the Orbas. He has been searching for a very long time. What it is, what it does, and what it would mean to find it are questions the story will answer. For now, the search takes him from London to Utah and wherever else it leads.

Kagami Kuro — Tokyo, Japan

Working at her family's izakaya, close to her friend Yuki, moving through her days with a resilience that costs more than it looks like it does. She is running from grief and running toward something she hasn't named yet.

The path she is on ends in blood. She knows this on some level. She has chosen it anyway.

His wall of disbelief is about to be demolished. What he builds in its place is the question.

Charlotte Greenwood — Former MI6, Greenwood Manor, England

Former MI6. She has inherited her father's estate and with it, secrets she is still excavating. Short blonde hair. A scarred face. A black coat. A calm that reads as dangerous because it is.

She has been lying for so long that the truth has become a puzzle she is working on from the outside. She is getting closer.

Theo Moreau — Deus descendant, rural France

"A descendant of gods, discovering his heritage."

A French student with a scientific mind and long dark hair. He is about to experience a catastrophic loss that is both his entry point into the story and the first sign that he is not what he thinks he is.

The tendrils of dimensional energy that occasionally manifest around him are something he has always found an explanation for. He is running out of explanations.

Charming. Retired, or so he says. Functionally impossible to kill, and equally impossible to stay annoyed at for long. His relationship with Dugan is one of the oldest things in the story.

Claudina

Fallen Angel

Long blonde hair. A scarred face. An agenda of her own that she is not sharing with anyone, including the reader, for now. She is not an enemy. She is something more complicated than that.
